Music fans of similar tastes most likely recognize the name already. For those of you who don’t I would assume another portion of you recognize the band name Tool or A Perfect Circle. I’m guessing like me a smaller percentage of you yet might recognize another project called Puscifer. Well regardless of how much of that you know (even if its none at all), each of these projects feature the artist Maynard James Keenan.
I will and can blame my reinterest in the music on a friend of mine’s husband. I hadn’t thought about the few cd’s of A Perfect Circle sitting quietly in my car for quite a while actually. I had never heard of the project Puscifer and quite honestly the general collection is just out of my humor or interest level but there are always a few things that are exceptions. While hanging out at said friend’s (Lynsey’s) house we (she and I, my fiance and her husband Mike) all got to talking music. One of the songs that he played was a Puscifer song from the Underworld soundtrack – a song that I love the sound of but like most movie music I didn’t bother to track down. For those curious that song is Rev 22.20.
So after that I came back with the urge to dig up some Maynard music and pick up this new discovery. From there is spirals and there are a few new songs and quite a few old ones now added to my current music lists. Here are a few of my favorite tracks:
- Puscifer – Rev 22.20
- Puscifer – Momma Sed
- A Perfect Circle – Imagine (cover)
- Puscifier – The Undertaker ( Renholder Mix)
- A Perfect Circle – Passive
- A Perfect Circle – The Noose
- A Perfect Circle – Passive
** I should warn anyone who has an interest to look up this music or any related to Puscifer, A Perfect Circle or Tool. I am not giving this music a rating for everyone. Some general notes this music includes language, both “curse-words” and suggestive, some dark and graphic themes and some religious references that I doubt will go over well with the highly religious. Honestly, for me, it comes down to clever (and some relatable for me) lyrics, well written and catchy music , and a great and unique voice. If you can’t handle the content then you’ll just miss the value anyway.
Time to start getting in shape. Nothing like a nearly free vacation to motivate!
