Servers and networks and domains oh my…

That’s right I will soon be moving everything over to a new server once again. I’ve not had the best luck with hosts and such for a while but this has been a good temporary home while it lasted. The people at K-disk were kind enough to take over the customers from a failed hosting company at no extra cost until we decided where we’d like to set up again. They have been nothing but helpful and I seriously considered buying hosting from them. I will however continue to suggest them as they have done a great job with the refugee customers and even went so far as to pull back ups from the dead hosting company who claimed none could be found.

In any case that means a whole new network of things and moving site purposes around a bit. Its a good opportunity to start up again without all the clutter that gets filled up from random backups. Right now I’m not sure what is what here so its been hard to post while I’ve tried to clean up the mess. Before long I will have a new home setup and it will be the start of a whole new decade of blogging for me. I can hardly believe I’ve been making websites as long as I have.

See ya soon!

There is a very telling little idiom that I remember my mother telling me just about every year…
“You can tell the men from the boys by the price of their toys.”

If that’s true I have to assume that it works the same for women in which case: I’m all grown up.. probably getting old. I had the worst time this year giving people a list of things to get me for Christmas. Don’t get me wrong I’m not expecting or getting anything on my current wish-list, at least on the one I’m talking about. I’d like to get into taking better photographs, for fun and for stock for websites, which means a better grade of camera. Last year my fiance bought me a wonderful little point and shoot that I love but the photos aren’t high-end quality. The price tags on those kinds of cameras puts it well out of reach for presents.

The other thing that caught my eye searching around the internet is a Wacom tablet that includes a pen-touch drawing surface on a video screen. I have always liked the idea of the tablets but never liked the kind that leave you guessing where your next stroke will be. Of course those are in the same price range as a good camera. Looks like I’ve got a lot of saving to do and a lot of small web jobs to take on for these goodies.

I also have quite a list of things I’d love to be able to get for my family and friends and although I’ve managed to find some fun things I hope they will love I can always buy more for people. Hopefully by next year I’ll have a steady job and be able to save up some money for a really exciting christmas for everyone.

Stuff aside though I love Christmas eve with my mom’s side of the family and Christmas day I’m making about my fiance, my daughter and I instead of being about running around the state to get to everything in one day. The weather out here looks kind of concerning though since my little rear wheel car doesn’t exactly do well in ice and snow. We’ve already had our share of issues with vehicles and cold weather so I hope we can avoid more of that.

I love this time of year. This summer has been too hot for me to be comfortable doing anything and as much as I love the warmth, I hate feeling sweaty and fearing the lobster-esque sunburns I’m all too familiar with. The change in seasons is wonderful for me. I particularly love the weather that is still warm of a day and of a night slightly chilly, just enough to curl up under the covers. What I don’t love is the season sickness. Don’t get me wrong I hardly ever get sick. For whatever reason I’m fairly hearty about it and while everyone around me is groaning and sneezing I’m somehow nearly always immune to it — nearly. This year is Alexa’s first year of school. She’s never had to go to a babysitter or daycare – not even while I was a full-time commuter student. I’m guessing I can blame this round of sick on a combination of the weather and the little kindergarten classmates Alexa has been so recently surrounded by. Whatever the case, this time around we’ve all got the bug.

Alexa got it first with a nasty fever to go with it. Then my mother and I picked up the miserable feeling as well. Alexa is still coughing, mom is stuffed up and has the sore throat and I just have so much pressure built up in my head I feel like I’m about to pop. Thankfully though we are all better than we were — I think. With any luck we’ll be over it completely by the end of the week.

Logan’s birthday is coming up here soon and shortly after that, my own. There are plans to hit the local Renaissance Fair as well here soon which is always fun. Yes I know I’m a nerd. I only regret not being able to afford more. Its always so much more fun to have a good amount of money to spend at the Fair – there is always so many things we end up wanting to buy!

With such a limited budget trying to find a good web host — affordable, reliable and with enough space and features — has been really tough. Recently I’ve been moved over to a new webhost from one that’s decided to close down. I have some time to decide but I need to figure out where I’ll be setting up again if at all. If anyone has suggestions for a good, reliable, relatively inexpensive web host please let me know. I’m looking for at least reseller level because of the multiple projects I have set up for friends and family and I am most comfortable with the cPanel system.

I went out to eat and hang out with my friend Lynsey and her husband Mike last night. During dinner and all the random conversation Lynsey and I almost always drift into a conversation about old friends in one way or another. I should probably mention that Lynsey and I have known each other since the second grade, since that makes it around 18 years we have been friends, there have been many sets of people that have come into and sort of faded out of our lives.

We are now in our lives learning to let go of our highschool friends who just haven’t stayed close. Much to our significant others’ dismay we always come back to at least one person in particular we just haven’t been able to write off yet. During the conversation again last night, Mike asked what is it about “Ava” that we just won’t stop dealing with her. We threw out ideas for why, knowing full well that she and I don’t really know why we feel we have to keep in touch. Honestly the relationship hasn’t been trust-worthy, or even at times fully safe since we left highschool.

It got me thinking, Lynsey retains a little bit more of a friendship with people than I do, part of that is straight out of highschool they got jobs or went to local community colleges without much responsibility while I had my daughter and started commuting full-time to college. It makes sense, they still had time to hang out together while I was around a whole new social atmosphere. But in the end, now, even though Lynsey had more time to stay connected, even she is down to “Ava,” a close friend she’s had since they were babies, and I.

Sure we all change, that’s normal and nothing surprising. So why is it so hard to give up on “Ava” ? Of the friends that have faded out they’ve almost all done so gradually. Those that really haven’t have something about them that makes it simple for us to understand. When your personality reflects the person in the room you are drawn to and has no other depth it’s natural that after some time apart you aren’t the person you were when we were all friends. I think the problem we have letting go of “Ava” is simple – she’s the complete opposite person and we are just confused as to how that happened. She was smart and had strong convictions, now she’s easily brainwashed and her strong convictions have become the complete opposite. In short, the old “Ava” would have kicked the new “Ava”s ass for what she’s up to now.

The shady characters she’s so devoted to, are the people she avoided at all cost. The ignorant thoughts she’s so adamant about, are some of the most offensive things someone could have said. All-in-all it just makes no sense, bad decisions are one thing but they have run rampant over her life. As much as it hurts me to say, the “Ava” we knew and loved is gone. Buried maybe, but with so much time devoted to looking for her I’m sad to say I don’t think so anymore. I guess it’s just time to give up on her.

* As you probably already figured out “Ava” is not the friend mentioned’s true identity. Other details have been omitted or altered to some small degree.

Music fans of similar tastes most likely recognize the name already. For those of you who don’t I would assume another portion of you recognize the band name Tool or A Perfect Circle. I’m guessing like me a smaller percentage of you yet might recognize another project called Puscifer. Well regardless of how much of that you know (even if its none at all), each of these projects feature the artist Maynard James Keenan.

I will and can blame my reinterest in the music on a friend of mine’s husband. I hadn’t thought about the few cd’s of A Perfect Circle sitting quietly in my car for quite a while actually. I had never heard of the project Puscifer and quite honestly the general collection is just out of my humor or interest level but there are always a few things that are exceptions. While hanging out at said friend’s (Lynsey’s) house we (she and I, my fiance and her husband Mike) all got to talking music. One of the songs that he played was a Puscifer song from the Underworld soundtrack – a song that I love the sound of but like most movie music I didn’t bother to track down. For those curious that song is Rev 22.20.

So after that I came back with the urge to dig up some Maynard music and pick up this new discovery. From there is spirals and there are a few new songs and quite a few old ones now added to my current music lists. Here are a few of my favorite tracks:

Puscifer – Rev 22.20

Puscifer – Momma Sed

A Perfect Circle – Imagine (cover)

Puscifier – The Undertaker ( Renholder Mix)

A Perfect Circle – Passive

A Perfect Circle – The Noose

A Perfect Circle – Passive

** I should warn anyone who has an interest to look up this music or any related to Puscifer, A Perfect Circle or Tool. I am not giving this music a rating for everyone. Some general notes this music includes language, both “curse-words” and suggestive, some dark and graphic themes and some religious references that I doubt will go over well with the highly religious. Honestly, for me, it comes down to clever (and some relatable for me) lyrics, well written and catchy music , and a great and unique voice. If you can’t handle the content then you’ll just miss the value anyway.

Once again the web presence is renewed. After some drama with hosts, some losses with a server problem, and burn out thanks to a degree program and not having the time to just chill out and relax enough to get inspired, I’m back on the internet. I doubt there is much of anyone who might remember my web presence: it’s just been too long. No worries I’m up to the challenge of reinventing my web presence and starting from scratch. Who knows where we’ll go from here. So stay tuned for whatever’s in store!
